When to seek help
Babies up to 12 months of age
Feeding:Request a consultation if baby is not growing well, is a disorganized feeder, is tube fed, is aversive to feedings, coughs, gags, or chokes during meals, or you are concerned/have questions about your child’s eating.
Communication Development: Request a consultation if your child does not consistently respond to sounds, does not respond to their name, does not abble by 9 months of age, is not using at least 2 words by 12 months of age (example: mama, dada, baba, wawa). or if you have concerns/questions about your child’s communication development.
Toddlers 12-24 months old
Feeding: Request a consultation if your toddler is not growing well, is tube fed, is aversive to feeding, coughs gags, or chokes during eating or drinking, does not attempt to feed self, has difficulty feeding self. or you are concerned about your child’s feeding/swallowing.
Communication Development:Request a consultation if your 24 month old does not say at least 50 words, if your child is not starting to put two words together, if your child does not understand most of what you say to him/her, if your child can not follow simple directions, if familiar people understand less than 50% of what your child says, or if you have any questions/concerns about your child’s communication.
2-3 year olds
Feeding:Request a consultation if your two year old drools, is not growing well, is tube fed, is aversive to tooth brushing or feeding, coughs, gags, or chokes during eating or drinking, has trouble chewing, does not feed self, or if you are concerned/have questions about your child’s feeding/swallowing.
Communication Development: Request a consultation if your older two year old is not yet putting 3-5 words together, asking a variety of questions, answering a variety of questions, following multi step directions, is difficult to understand, or you have concerns about your child’s communication.
